Backyard Poolscape Transformation
From Aging Pool Patio to a Finished Outdoor Retreat
Services: Poolscape Renovation | Hardscaping | Pavilion/Cabana Area | Fire Pit Lounge | Plantings & Decorative Stone
Timeline: 8–12 weeks
Setting: Residential suburban backyard, New Jersey
The Goal, and What the Site Required
The homeowners had a large backyard with an existing in-ground pool, but the space around it felt dated, uneven, and disconnected from how they wanted to use the property.
The old concrete pool deck was tired and visually heavy. The backyard had plenty of square footage, but it lacked comfortable zones for lounging, dining, shade, and gathering after dark.
The goal was to turn the pool area into a complete backyard destination: cleaner, more inviting, easier to maintain, and better suited for everyday family use and for entertaining.
BEFORE
The Approach
Green Nature redesigned the space around the existing pool and created a more cohesive layout with multiple outdoor living zones.
The old pool surround was replaced with a large-format paver patio that wraps the pool and connects naturally to the rest of the yard. The lighter paver color brightens the entire space and gives the pool area a cleaner, more modern look.
A covered pavilion was added beside the pool to create a shaded area for dining, drinks, and relaxing out of the sun. Its dark roof and simple structure give the backyard a polished focal point without overwhelming the open lawn.
On the far side of the pool, our Green Nature team created a raised lounge area with built-in seating, lounge chairs, and a fire pit. This gave the homeowners a dedicated place to gather in the evening, extending the use of the backyard beyond swimming season.
AFTER
The Details That Tie It Together
Unified hardscaping: One consistent paver palette connects the pool deck, pavilion pad, walkways, and lounge areas.
Better flow: The new layout creates clear movement from the house to the pool, pavilion, and fire pit area.
Defined gathering spaces: The backyard now includes separate zones for swimming, shade, lounging, dining, and fireside conversation.
Low-maintenance finish: Decorative stone, clean bed edges, and structured plantings help keep the space neat and easier to care for.
The Result
The backyard now feels like one complete outdoor retreat instead of a pool surrounded by unused space.
The pool is cleaner and more inviting. The pavilion gives the family a shaded place to relax and entertain. The fire pit lounge creates a comfortable evening destination. And the entire space now feels intentional, polished, and ready to use season after season.
Investment
Poolscape transformations like this typically begin in the $150,000–$250,000 range, with larger patios, covered structures,
fire features, lighting, drainage, and premium materials moving projects into the $250,000–$350,000+ range.
